Huxley (for the Xbox 360) movie

May 30, 2005 · 1 Comment

The Xbox 360’s Huxley (MMO coming Summer 2006…supposedly) is looking better and better with every new pic I see, and now we have a movie! None of this seems to be in-game footage (feel free to prove me wrong) but the environment looks cool nonetheless. I’m such a graphics whore…

A moment of silence please….

May 27, 2005 · 1 Comment

The Matrix Online takes place after the events of the 3rd Matrix film. The cool thing is that the players get to drive the story as it continues. As a product of this it was recently announced, apparently during a life event inside the Matrix Online, that Morpheus has passed away. You can read more about it here or here. I sure am going to miss that guy….

PS3 vs Xbox 360 vs Revolution

May 25, 2005 · 1 Comment

Now that there are all kinds of details about the next generation of video game systems coming our way, who has the best system? Post your comments about the different systems. Personally, based off of the numbers and engineering facts, I put my money on the PS3. Of course Xbox 360 has got Halo 3 coming to it (according to Bill Gates himself). Halo has been the number one reason to buy an Xbox for quite some time now. Will it also move the 360 off the shelf as well as it did the first Xbox? I think if Killzone for the PS3 is as good as it’s looking right now, Microsoft might be in a little bit of trouble. Let us also not forget the Revolution. It sounds like a dream come true to have the ability to download any game that Nintendo has ever made for any of its console systems. Pricing is going to be a big factor in the future of the console wars. I think the pricing might be more competitive than some people are saying. The PS3 has some pretty insane specs, and I bet Sony takes a hit in profits and sells the PS3 for a lower price than we expect. Microsoft is now making its own computer chips and doesn’t need to contract out to other companies to produce computer chips. This will indeed help Microsoft control it’s selling price a little better. Nintendo has always been the bargain gaming platform and I would venture to say it will stay that way moving into the next generation. The war may wage on between the systems but the good news is for the gamers. The competition will spwan some pretty sweet games for the next round and I sure as hell am excited to see the games I’ll be playing next year.

arstechnica digs into the Xbox 360

May 25, 2005 · Leave a Comment

If you dig looking at or reading about hardware specs, arstechnica has up an article detailing the innards of the Xbox 360 and the various patents Microsoft has filed. It’s a good view of how the technology could work and how developers could possibly use it. Procedural synthesis sounds pretty cool, from the article:

In a nutshell, procedural synthesis is about making optimal use of system bandwidth and main memory by dynamically generating lower-level geometry data from statically stored higher-level scene data.

Umm yeah, If that got your engine reving, this article is perfect for you.

New Maps for Halo are Delayed…

May 25, 2005 · Leave a Comment

Bungie announced that the next package of maps for Halo 2 will be delayed. Both the coming retail version and the downloadable version. It appears the downloadable pack via Xbox Live will be delayed by a week because bungie has some issues with matchmaking and autoupdate to work out. Read it here in the weekly update.

Bungie really seems to be proud of their new maps. I really want to play on some new worlds, but hasn’t Microsoft grossed enough money out of us for this game?

Factor 5 to go with PS3 over Xbox 360

May 23, 2005 · Leave a Comment

In what kind of seems like a slap to the faceof Xbox 360, Factor 5 is bascially dumping any Xbox 360 work in Favor of PS3. Stating in an article on Cnet:

The choice boiled down to performance, Eggebrecht said at E3 in Los Angeles. His company has worked with Microsoft’s Xbox 360, but found PlayStation 3’s 3.2GHz Cell chip offered more processing power. The additional performance allows the gang at Factor 5 to more easily simulate the real world for a better game experience, he said.

We all know that more power doesn’t necessarily lead to better games. Is there something else going on behind the scenes here? Maybe the next-gen Playstation is easier to program for or maybe Sony is going to be giving them some kind of deal. It’ll be interesting to see if any other developers follow suit.
