Way to go Bloyce!!

July 28, 2005 · Leave a Comment

Kotaku editor Brian Crecente was on CNN over the weekend and was able to find a place to put the video of him on Fox News “debating” Grand Theft Auto getting the AO rating. The segment is way too short and they news anchor lady can’t even get his name right. Her flub-ups cost Brian some face time since the Bloyce she kept referring to never appeared on camera. Come on Bloyce, face the nation like a man!

Trailer for Xbox 360 RPG eNCHANT arM

July 28, 2005 · Leave a Comment

aRE tHE fUNNY lOOKING lETTERS nESSCESSARY? Either way, this trailer for this Xbox 360 role playing game eNCHANT arM looks pretty good. Sure it’s mostly cutscenes but there are some obvious in-game shots in there and it does look pretty nice. Nothing I haven’t seen in a final fantasy game in the past 5-7 years though so we’ll see how it turns out. That owuld be awsome to have this as a launch title but I doubt it.

“Super Xbox” seller/modder gets jailtime

July 28, 2005 · Leave a Comment

Hitesh Patel was handed a sentence of 4 months in jail, four months in home detention followed by two years of supervised release for his role in modding xboxes and selling the “Super Xboxes” through Pandora’s Cube retail stores. Apparently, Patel worked for all three stores and managed one of them. Other Pandora’s Cube employees are expected to be sentenced next month.

EDIT by Drseuss90:
I read at xbox-scene that this guy was also selling modded xboxs for 400 or 500 bucks with like 15 games loaded to the HDD. If thats true, that could be part of the reason why they brought the hammer down so hard on him…

Forget blaming video games, why not look into football?

July 27, 2005 · Leave a Comment

Author of”Everything Bad Is Good For You: How Today’s Popular Culture Is Actually Making Us Smarter“, Steven Johnson, wrote an interesting and somewhat though provoking (for someone more important than me hjopefully) article for the LATimes website asking Hilary Clinton why not look into football instead of wasting money on video games. It’s an excellent article and I would like to see some mainstream media pick up on this and see what they have to say.

On to the issue of aggression, and what causes it in kids, especially teenage boys. Congress should be interested in the facts: The last 10 years have seen the release of many popular violent games, including “Quake” and “Grand Theft Auto”; that period has also seen the most dramatic drop in violent crime in recent memory. According to Duke University’s Child Well-Being Index, today’s kids are less violent than kids have been at any time since the study began in 1975. Perhaps, Sen. Clinton, your investigation should explore the theory that violent games function as a safety valve, letting children explore their natural aggression without acting it out in the real world.
